Today I had the interesting experience of being a "fly on the wall," so to speak, during a meeting of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The occasion was an annual report by the Central America Area presidency to the Twelve, the Presidency of the Seventy, and the Presiding Bishopric via videoconference. I was not on camera, but I did get to watch from just off-camera, and I had been involved in helping edit the script, helping put together the PowerPoint presentation with photos and graphs, and helping with several rehearsals. During Elder Falabella's absence I even got to read his part during rehearsals, and once I got to additionally read the part of Jorge Duran, our DTA (Director of Temporal Affairs). Following today's formal presentation, the Brethren were very complimentary of the work being done by our Area Presidency. Elder Packer said at the end, "It doesn't get any better than this!" And Elder Perry sought out Elder Christofferson (our first contact with the Quorum of the Twelve) afterwards to convey his congratulations and compliments. The entire project has taken significant time over the past four months, with multiple revisions, and it is good to have it behind us for this year. Following are a few photos of the event:
L to R: Jorge Duran, Elder Falabella, Elder Clarke, Elder Martino, just before the videoconference
View of the room during the videoconference. On top on the right is a TV hooked up to a computer with teleprompter software to scroll the script, the pace of which is controlled by the brother in the background from our technical support department. The computer on the right is controlling the PowerPoint presentation, which we saw on another TV but which those in Salt Lake saw on a movie screen. They also saw our Area Presidency on another large screen, and we saw them on the TV in the middle, and saw our own group on a small inset screen.
Another view of the room setup. You can see the TV on the right where we saw the PowerPoint presentation that was being shown in Salt Lake. If you look very carefully, you may be able to identify the bald-headed guy in the lower left of the screen, with his gorgeous wife in the red dress. On the screen on the left you can see Elder Packer and Elder Perry.
